On-the-Road Tips

  • Ride Predictably: Flow with traffic, signal turns, and make eye contact at intersections.
  • Choose Low-Stress Routes: Prefer paths, side streets & marked bike lanes when available.
  • Head on a Swivel: Scan for doors opening, driveways, and pedestrians.
  • Mind the Weather: Strong winds, wet sand, and rain reduce traction & stopping power.
  • Space Cushion: Give people (and pelicans!) room; pass slowly and announce “On your left.”
  • No Impaired Riding: It’s illegal—and unsafe— to ride under the influence.
First Coast Essentials

Beach Riding & Tides

Firm sand is your friend—ride closer to the waterline only when the tide is low and the surface is packed. Avoid soft, deep sand (it eats batteries & confidence).

  • Check Tides: Look up today’s tide table before you go. St. Augustine Tides
  • Rinse & Wipe: After beach riding, lightly rinse salt/sand off frame & drivetrain; dry battery contacts.
  • Respect Local Rules: Some stretches limit riding or dictate sidewalk use—see links below.

Battery Care & Charging

  • Charge at room temp on a hard, non-flammable surface; keep ports dry.
  • Use only the provided charger; avoid extension cords or multi-strips.
  • Plug wall → charger → bike. To disconnect: bike → charger → wall.
  • Don’t charge unattended or overnight; keep out of direct sun/heat.
  • Avoid fully draining to 0%—lithium cells are happiest topped up.
Lock It Down

Bike Security

  • Park in well-lit, high-visibility areas—within sight when possible.
  • Lock the frame to a fixed object (rack, post); never only the wheel.
  • Use quality U-lock (and cable for front wheel); engage any built-in alarm.
  • Store indoors & locked when not riding; group bikes together when possible.
Know the Rules

Florida Laws & Local Resources

Skim these before your first ride; they’re short and rider-friendly.

Riding with kids? We recommend extra visibility (bright vests/lights), steady pacing, and frequent snack-and-smile breaks. 🌞

Quick FAQ

Do I have to ride in the same direction as traffic?
Yes—ride with traffic, not against it; use bike lanes where available and obey traffic signals. (See Florida 316.2065 for bike regulations.) :contentReference[oaicite:9]{index=9}
Can I ride an e-bike on the beach?
Check local rules and tides first. Many stretches allow riding on firm, low-tide sand; avoid soft sand and crowded areas. See the tide chart & local ordinances above. :contentReference[oaicite:10]{index=10}
What about riding under the influence?
It’s illegal and unsafe to ride impaired. Plan a rideshare or designate a “no-drinks” rider.
